Washington,DC, June 24, 2004 – The East of the River Clergy Police Community
Partnership (ERCPCP) in conjunction with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department
(MPD), AMERIGROUP Mid Atlantic, and Infinity Broadcasting will announce on
Monday, June 28, 2004 at 11:30 AM plans for their “40 Days of Increased Peace”
program. The press conference will take place at MPD’s Regional Operations
Command East (ROC East), 3244 Pennsylvania Ave., SE located in the Lower Level
of Penn Branch Shopping Center. MPD officials and community leaders are
expected to be in attendance. This marks the 4th annual observance of “40
Days” which began this year on June 25, 2004 and will end August 3, 2004.
Reverend Donald Isaac, Executive Director of ERCPCP, took the lead in
coordinating the efforts of over 30 churches, community organizations and
individuals to plan free events, activities and services targeted to youth and
young adults as an alternative to violence. Assistant Chief Winston Robinson
(ROC East) said: “This is our community and our children, therefore MPD must do
our part.” The police department is coordinating several of the events. The
lead partners in “40 Days” are AMERIGROUP, Alliance of Concerned Men, Abigail,
CEEP/ULA, A.P. Shaw United Methodist Church, DC Parks and Recreation, DC‘s
Promise East of the River, Heaven 1580, WPGC FM, God Blend Ministries, Planned
Parenthood of the Washington Metropolitan Area, Job Corps and ROOT.
ERCPCP has a 7 Point anti-violence imitative to develop activities and services
providing health and safety information as well as enjoyable alternatives to
violence during school breaks.
